Bittersweet: it’s my good friend Stephenie’s last day at JPL, before moving on to new things.  In typically entertaining style, here she is posing in my motorcycle helmet.  We’ll miss you around here, Steph!

I’ve decided I need to figure out how to draw with fine line pen.  The answer: not quite like this.  But I’ll figure it out.

Today at work, I spent a few minutes in the TV studio making some HD dubs.  Not far from those machines is this almost-forgotten beast from back before I was born. (Sorry, Jon Hicks, if you’re reading this!)

P.S. Thanks, Steve, for loaning me the anatomy book for artists.  But if you and Mark don’t stop encouraging me and start acting more like villains, you’re going to ruin my whole narrative.

…but this is what stores my LEGO.  Growing up, we had a couple of tackle boxes like these packed with bricks.  My brother hung onto those, so I finally got around to buying a couple myself for the LEGO I have.  And yes, I know it’s a little reminiscent of “Gene, The Anal Retentive Carpenter” — but hey, it beats shoving it all in a giant trashbag (ahem, childhood Kelly).

Stopped by the always-reliable Panda Inn tonight with a bunch of friends.  We went easy on the endangered mammals, and stuck with lighter fare.  Next time though, we’re stopping here.

First blind drawing on Sketch 365!  I remembered this exercise from art class way back in grade school — the blind contour drawing, done without looking at the page.  Of course, it’s usually done with one continuous line, rather than picking up the pencil and resetting.  Doing it that way can help things stay in a bit better arrangement and proportion.  Still, I had a good laugh at these when I finished.

So, since I imagine you may not have already guessed, left to right is Mr. Bolivia, Ms. Punchingbag and Mrs. Sketch 365.

Kinda surprised it took this long for this to show up in a sketch.  It’s a bargain basement cheapie, but it does the job.  Maybe if I played it more though, I could “outgrow” it and upgrade.  Okay, so nobody tell my wife about this little scheme…

Found this little guy in a bag of old LEGO that my wife brought into the family.  He interfaces with LEGO, but he doesn’t look like quite at home.  I’m thinking he’s a cunning imposter.  Probably something like “LEQO” brand.  Kinda like those running shoes I once saw at an Israeli street market — they had all the hottest brands, including Nyke, Adibas and Reobok.

I know, you’re probably getting sick of these by now.  But here’s me again, super-muscular, with my back turned to the mirror.  Quite an amazing feat for me to draw myself that way.  And to shave my head that cleanly.  And to build all that muscle mass…

I fear my ruse is beginning to unravel.
